What Do You Live for?

Updated: Feb 6, 2024

“What do you do for living that allows you to travel?”

I don’t get the “what do you do for living” part. There’s nothing I need to DO to live. I was born to live, I’m always living.

I don’t get the “allow you to travel” part either. I’m not going to wait on some job to allow me to travel. I choose to travel and so I travel. And life arranges itself.

There’s no one “right” way to do it. There’s just a way, and it reveals itself to me bit by bit, just in time for the next step. I don’t know where and how it’s going to twist further down. But I’ve learned to trust that I will know what the next step is when I need to, that I will always be safe and taken care of.

TRUST and keep going. When it’s scary and you don’t know where you’re going next, if you have enough money etc etc - just TRUST and take the next step. It always sorts itself out.

As for the financial practicalities that everyone is so curious about: I was never rich, quite the opposite. When I a was penniless student, I lived off scholarships. I babysitted. I found cheap accommodation. I went on sponsored youth exchanges and conferences. I saved on daily life. I couchsurfed, took the cheapest flights, slept on buses. I spent time in foreign countries as an au-pair and worked part-time jobs in dream destinations. Travel was non-negotiatble and so it was always a part of my life. I learned that as long as I trusted, everything was possible and things would arrange themselves in miraculous ways.

The more I travel, the more I trust, the more miraculous it gets. During the pandemic, I didn’t pay rent for 1.5 years while living in 4 countries as a nomad. While my stuff is still stuck in China, people gave me clothes and household items every time I moved - I barely bought anything in 2 years!

The point is: it’s NEVER about the money, never about the HOW. It’s always about whether you dare to say yes to your calling and live the life you dream of.

I'd like to twist the opening question around:

”What do you live for?”

What were you born to be and do in this lifetime? What gifts will you share with the world? It seems I am here to be a traveler...

What’s your soul’s purpose?

If you dare to live it, all will arrange itself.
